It was a rare occasion where Nat, Shilei and myself met up for brunch at Vanilla Cafe just beside Tanjong Pagar station. Not really beside but you will need to take about 8 mins walk.

12 months ago it will not be a rare occasion as we were colleagues that used to meet everyday. Currently Nat is with another firm while Shilei is jobless after pursuing her dream to study Korean in Korea.

They will log in and check on the postings / notifications almost every min.

Just take a train or go to any cafes you will see many people checking their Iphones etc to surf on facebook. Some will even share with the whole world where they are now.

Is it really necessary? I mean you will need to tell the whole world what you are doing / where are you now?

Let's see how long this paradigm will last...

Sunday (26th Dec 2010) was a gift exchange day with Carol and we went to PS Cafe at Dempsey again. Haha. Reached around 7pm.Ordered some food. I did not think we ordered a lot but the portion were really big.Some chicken thingy...PS fries... Very big.Chicken pasta...Some blackie cake. It's gigantic. Carol and the blackie cake.

After we finisehd our bloated dinner at Dempsey, we went Suntec to walk around before we settle down at Old Town to perform our gift exchange. At Old Town.

My gift for her...Her gift for me...Royce chocolates and 2011 customised calendar...That's all folks. One more week to the New Year!

I just realized I have not been updating my blog for a good 2 months. Time flies and and 2010 is approaching an end. 2011 is coming in less than a week's time.

How's the year for everyone in 2010? I'm sure some had a good one while others might not have good experiences. No matter what, the most important thing is to look forward and decide what kind of changes you want to see in your life. We create our own paths!

This year was an exciting year for me especially. Ever since graduation from SIM back in 2006, life was pretty much the same, living each day smoothly without much concrete goals. This year is different as I decided to see breakthrough in various aspects. All these started after I met up with Chee Kiong in Jan 2010.

Attended the 80th Anniversary founding of SGI in SIS yesterday with my parents and it was a good feeling to be able to be part of it. The four emcess asked the audiences what are the victories we had in 2010 and I was really proud of myself to be able to have an answer to that question. Of course let's not be complacent. We have to be consistent in our practice!

Next goal will be to focus on the Chingay 2011 as it is just less than 2 months away!

Nevertheless Merry Belated Xmas and happy holidays! Cheers.

Last Sunday (03 Oct), we went to Seletar Flying Club to have dinner. It is not a very straight forward place to navigate around hence it's better to go where there is daylight unless you are very familar with that place.Seletar Air Base Carol.Sunset Grill and Pub. Mooncakes! I love mooncakes. It has become so commercialized that every brand is thinking of marketing strategies to attract coustomers.

How do they do that? By investing in packaging and new favours. To be frank, i'm a conservative boring man hence my favourite is still red bean and lotus paste!

Nevertheless, we had a mini mooncake tasting at 5.30pm yesterday in office.The traditional lotus paste mooncake.I supposed this is the most wanted favour. Durain!!!I don't know how to describe this. it's like 'kueh' to me.

Met Carol for dinner after work and we went to an Australian Cafe (Double Bay Restaurant & Bar) at Raffles City. Not bad!

She gave me a namecard holder. Carol!

I ordered Fish & Chips (Australian Barramundi). The fish was really fresh. The Pan Roasted Halve Chicken was not bad too but a bit salty.The dessert was really good. It's called Lava Cake. Hard on the outside but smooth and soft on the inside. Chocolate will ooze out once you cut the cake. Simply delicious!Next month back to European Shift!

Why do we buy cars in Singapore? Guess if you ask this question to 10 people, 8 of them will tell you no idea. Transport systems locally is so advanced. With the add on of Circle Line, there is really no reasons for us to buy cars.

The roads have been so congested with cars for the past 5 years. Also, with Singapore submerging in water whenever it rains, cars become floating in underground carparks, increased of car insurances premium although your NCD supposed to give you discounts every year, costs of maintainece had made higher.

Having said that, we will still buy cars especially for guys. Just washed my car and took some photos of her. Before you know it, she has been with me for 30 months. ;) Vios 2008The accelerator and brakes.

Last Friday, GMO&MO had buffet dinner and throwing of the fishes at aroubd 5.15pm. I ate only a bit as I had to meet Carol for dinner. Below are some of the photos and moments captured that day. The bank had a new year celebration on Friday 19 Feb 2010 with lion dances and throwing of the fishes (Loarrine said that!) aka Yu Shen Tossing.

The event started at around 5pm which a loud 'dong dong chian' entering the entrance of 5th floor. If I'm not wrong, Sam was still on the phone with someone in London when the 'dong dong chian' sounded off, covering the entire fifth floor.
In a short while, lions were dancing to each of our desk. Richard even 'kicked' the perky butt of the lion! He believed that move to be auspicious.

Time flies and Jay celebrated his 31st birthday today. On his 29th birthday (2008), he was at Singapore Indoor Stadium holding his concert and the crowd sang the birthday for him.

His songs never failed to touch me, be it happy times or sad times (by the way his sad songs are really nice) and had been appreciating his songs since 2001!This was how he looked like back in early 2000s.Recent photo of him.

Ever see his performance with Jolin before? The above video was a recording where Jolin held her concert and invited her 'good friend' Jay to play the piano. From his looks, should be in year 2002.

In the past, those who own an Iphone will feel exclusive as not many people has it. When the owner stepped into a bus / train / shopping malls, people will look at him/her as the person is an Iphone owner. They will give comments like..
Wah Iphone leh... you see you see... Iphone leh... Upon giving the rights to M1 and Starhub, there was a rush of subscribers to change their current phones to Iphone as it was perceived as a cool gadget. Because of the collective mindset of consumers, the once perceived cool product became so HOT that it became not so cool anymore. Step into the bus / train/ shopping malls, you will see teenagers, working adults, uncles / aunties holding onto an Iphone.

One friend told me she saw this auntie using Iphone in a wet market. Guess if anyone sees an Iphone now, their reaction would be... Iphone huh.. chey! The whold world is using now. What's so special?

Before i begin, anybody knows what's a Yankee Swap? This will be the definition.

In Yankee Swap each participant brings a wrapped, unmarked gift and places it in a designated area. Guests are given numbers as they arrive, or their names are randomly drawn, and they select and unwrap gifts from the pile in that order — with a twist.

The person who receives the number 1 will pick a gift (that is not their own) from the pile and open it for all to see (or models it, reads it, or demos it). During the selection of a wrapped gift, the participant may visually inspect the gifts, pick them up and/or gently shake them.

The person who receives number 2 then chooses a gift and opens it, and then must decide whether to keep it or swap it for the first player’s gift. Each person in order then gets to select a present, open it and decide whether to keep it or swap it for any other gift someone has already opened.

Opening of gifts and swapping takes place until all the presents have been chosen. Finally, the person who picked first gets to choose from all the gifts or keep what he/she has already received. In the end, the gift you are holding is the gift you take home.

Christmas dinner was spent eating dinner at Jack's Place, Great World City. Those attended the dinner were JJ, Alvin, Brian, Brian's gf (Amelia) and my gf (Carol Wong).Carol, JJ and Brian.Amelia, Alvin and me.I personally feel that the fish and potatoes not too bad.JJ opening the small gift prepared by Jack's Place.Desert. The ice cream was really big and sweet. The entire christmas course was really filling.Finally a group photo.

After dinner, we went to catch the movie "Sherlock Holmes". It was a nice show!

Gift Exchange

Our team had a gift exchange on Wednesday where each of us picked a name for the exchange a few weeks back. The budget was $20. I picked Richard for a consecutive 2 years! We went to a meeting room and did the exchange. Sylvia giving Zi Yin.Nat helped me wrapped the present (it was quite professional!) which was for Richard but he was on leave. I bought a tshirt from Bossini.Sonia!Pierre received the present from Richard.Nat gave the above to Sylvia.Andre received the keyboard rest cusion.Guess what I received?A pair of berms from John Little.Alright my turn to give but Richard was not in office. Shall give him on Monday!Johnson's turn to give to June.An Adidas towel!Sam gave Nat a pair of necklace.If i'm not wrong, Jaron gave Sam some skin care products.

We gave Shilei a surprise on Friday! She had totally no idea that we actuakky bought a cake for her. Sam sent an email saying we would be having a team meeting at 5pm which was actually the surprise for her.So funny. Dinner and Dance for this year was held at Suntec City Convention Hall 506. The theme was 'World Fiesta'. It's a good thing that people were willing to dress up for the occasion. Happy Hari Raya Haji to everybody! Though today is a public holiday for Singapore, it's not a holiday in Asia Pacific hence I need to go back to work. After work, I met girlfriend and her mum for dinner as it was her mum's birthday!

Singaporeans love to queue isn't? The government gave us the opportunity to change our cards since April but many people still wait till the last day to change the cards. Some of my colleagues are guilty of that too. I asked them why wait till the last day? They replied: "Very lazy leh!"

This week was an interesting one as the company organized an associate appreciation week to thank all the employees for the hard work throughout the year thus far.

The transition between Bank of America and Merrill Lynch have been going on for a year now and some colleagues from BoA (from other depts) had moved to Harbour Front office.

The management organized some activities throughout the week. On Thursday we had video conferencing with colleagues around the region (Australia / HongKong / Japan) whom we commuicate with everyday. It was nice to see Steve Hacker again via video conference.

The managers of MLI Asset Services (Loarrine, Richard...) also bought some tea break food from Ya Kun at around 4pm to give us. Before we left the office, we had 'golden pillow' too! Below are some of the photos we took. Richard and Sam preparing the food.

I saw Kelvin Kam (My study pal in SIM) today at Dhouby Ghuat station at around 8.15am but he did not manage to see me. The morning culture across the working population is the same. Everybody will be walking very fast as if he / she is having a bad stomach and rushing for the cubicle.

We will be arranging a meetup soon and hope Steven can join us! It has been a long long time since we last met!

Anyway the show 溏心风暴 is reaching its climax. Singapore really need to learn from Hong Kong considering the fact that the mentioned drama is not a new one but was produced back in 2007. Channel 8 is only broadcasting now after 2 years.

Genting trip (My very first!) with my gf Carol was blessed with good fortune and good weather. We booked through Five Stars way back in July and below were the photos we took for the three days. On the way to Genting. We reached around 2.30pm. Set off from Singapore at 8am. The view from the First World Hotel. It was a nice hotel. Didn't really do much. We walked around shopping and had dinner at Pizza Hut. Alright we slept really early on the first day as she was not feeling too well.

We woke up really late on the second day!Before we went out for 'brunch'.Nasi Lemak from MarryBrown.Porridge from MarryBrown.Took the surrounding photos as well.The Oscar award.After walking around, we decided to go Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Think again if you want to adopt a child in the future as what you see might NOT be what you get...

I went to watch a midnight show 'Orphan' and it was a nice scary show. The tragic loss of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, taking a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and haunted by demons from her past.

Struggling to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt another child. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther.

Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther--this seemingly angelic little girl is not what she appears to be.

Shearer was at his best back then and he scored one goal out of the five and created much chances for the rest of the goals.

Anger is something that can be quite scary. It makes you spill out things that you don't mean them at all. Hence it is very important to curb the anger well. I'm sure everyone has anger. Just that the degree of it is different. Some people lose anger easily well some will take it everything till a level which they can't take it anymore. A valcano thus eurpts.

Guess if you feel that your heart and body is boiling, take a breather and a step back. Cool things down and revisit the situtaion better and I'm sure things are not as bad as it seems.

Learn to cherish loved ones. Guess the things that happened this week made me realized it's very important to cherish people around us.

Many times, we are too pre-occupied with our own commitments and neglected the important; yet simple things around us. Therefore it is very important for us to take a step back and look at the entire situtation from a different point of view.

Pace of life is too fast and we need to slow down to appreciate the lovely things around us. There are people who care about us, don't take them for granted and show your love back to them as well.

The F1 racing is just around the corner and I must admit I am not a fan at all. Borneo Motors launched the racing edition of the Vios and Altis but I doubt there are any major differences from the racing edition launched last year.

They made the car looked more fierce though and I like the dark greyish rims.Honda Civic 1.6L is selling at around 75K. This is seriously madness and i wonder why Honda cars are so much more expensive.

I went for 10,000km servicing on Monday and it cost me $228. 20,000km servicing would cost around $340 but that would be many more months later since I don't drive that often.

I had learnt to cherish more and I'm so looking forward to the Genting trip!

Everything happens for a reason. No one can deny that.

The causes we created in the past (can be past life, this life, 2 years ago, few months ago) will create the effects once the correct conditions are met.

When a cause is created, the latent effect which cannot be seen with our naked eyes will be there, waiting for the right conditions and environment to manifest itself. The thoughts and actions of one individual will also create the kind of effect which can also be termed as 'ichinen sanzen'.

This is the strict law of cause and effect.

Respect has to be earned. Respect is not about how well you give encouragements or how well you explain about certain topics or how high is your position in an organization. In others words, you cannot be a NATO (No Action Talk Only) in order for people to respect you.

For example. No matter how JJ scolds me or give up on me, I respect him as he earned my respect for the past 6 years.

However, if a person (holding high position in any organization – workplace, school, family…) you have been listening to suddenly become a person which you can't come to terms with his actions, it will be hard to reconcile his actions and his thoughts and to follow him in the future.

Therefore, listen intently, act with wisdom and don’t follow blindly.

Steve Hacker's visit to Singapore office was a good one. He is from Melbourne whom came down to give us some training on understanding corporate actions in the Australia market better.

On Thursday (09Jul), we brought him to Two Chefs 'Zi Char' located at Commonwealth Drive which was highly recommended by Andre. Below are some of the photos took during the dinner.

Work has been hectic for the past 2 weeks. As many companies are raising funds, they are raising money through rights issues.

Rights issue is a form of corporate action where company issue a right to shareholders for them to purchase the shares of the company at a discount rate compared to the market price. Once they exercise the right, new shares will be given to them on pay date.

Rights can be tradable and non-tradable. Non-tradable rights will be the entitlement given to you on record date (book closure date). This amount will be your right to exercise for X amount of shares.

For tradable rights, you can actually buy or sell rights in the market instead of exercising the rights to get the X amount of shares.

If more shareholders exercise the rights, the company will raised money since you need to pay the subscription cost to the company. Of course, the company shares will be diluted since shareholders are holding on to more shares now.

Alright enough of all the technical terms.

As one grows older, our commitments will start to change. We write the chapters of our lives. You choose the road to embark on. Hence face it with courage.

I'm not a fan of him. Whenever his name was being mentioned in the past, I will relate him to plastic surgery and his weird vampire look. However after he passed away, I went youtube and did a search on his video clips / concert clips and finally i realised why he is so influential globally.

He started off as a young boy (at the age of 5) with his brothers and formed a group known as Jackson 5 before releasing his very first album in 1982 titled 'Thriller". His image for his first album.

His concert back in the 1990s.A very recent image of him. You can see how he actually evolved from being a black to the caucasion look. He was schduled to have a comback concert in 13th July in London but I wonder can he really dance and sing at the same time compared to what he did in the past?

Well, this question will never be answered now.

Rise and shine to day 5 of the trip! 09 Apr 2009. The moment we woke up, we were greeted by the clear view of Mt Fuji. (taken in the hotel room) Spot the bird.Brian and me went up to the balcony (it was really cold) to take some scenery photos. After photo taking (we haven't even brush our teeth), we went back to the hotel room to wah up as we prepare ourselves for breakfast. It was really nice.

The staff serving us for breakfast was really polite and nice. Her name is Xiao Luo. Below are photos of her.Xiao Luo and JJ's mum.We checked out of the hotel and prepared for our day activities. We went back to Kawaguchiko Station (our reference point) and waited for the bus to bring us to Lake Saiko.

14.7 degree celcius in the morning. We had to manage the time properly as the highway bus would arrive at 12.10pm SHARP to bring us back to Shinjuku station which cost JPY1,700 per person. Bus ticket as follows.
The first highlight of the day was a trip to Bat Cave located at Lake Saiko. We have to wear a helmet as it would be dangerous to enter the cave without it. JJ at the entrance of the cave.

We went back to Ueno. We were all quite tired after the journey back from Mt Fuji and we headed back to Kinuya Hotel.

The moment we put our luggage, we had no time to rest and headed our way back to the lobby as our next destination is Odaiba.

In the train on our way to Odaiba...Greeted by the gigantic ferris wheel upon reaching Aomi Station.Toyota Showroom. It was really big! Like a big shopping mall (but just for cars).Many models you just can't find in Singapore.Lexus. Don't see many red lexus in Singapore ya.Toyota Vitz. (known as Yaris in Singapore.)After visiting the car showroom, it was individual shopping time!

What!!! You don't know what's a Chendol?! The below photo is a bowl of chendol. Next time must go and eat!

It was an emotional moment for me when Newcastle United played Aston Villa on the last day of the Premier League. It was a must win game for Newcastle as they were fighting their way to stay up in the Premier League. If they lose, they will be relegated to Division 1 as they occupied the 18th position on the table.

Manchester United did them a flavour by beating Hull City 1-0 which means Newcastle just need a draw to stay up!

A club which I have been supporting since I was 14 years old (1996). I supported them because of Alan Shearer. He was a Blackburn player back then which Newcastle bought him over at a then record transfer fee of $15 Million Pounds. He declined the interest from Manchester United and joined Newcastle instead. Kevin Keegan bought him over and I started to support them ever since.

They were leading Manchester United by about 9 points and they were 1st in the Premier League with about 8 more games to go! However they lost the steam and Man United beat them to clinch the title and Newcastle was 2nd.

They went through ups and downs until Sir Bobby Robson took over the squad as manager in 2001 (around there la). The team rejuvunated and he brought in the likes of Laurent Robert, Criag Bellamy, Jonanthan Woodgate, Noberto Solano etc. They managed to be the top 5 clubs in the Premier League, challenging teams like Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

St James Park, the home ground of Newcastle became a fortress. Teams that visit them had a hard time beating them.

Mike Ashley bought over the team in recent years and everything started to fall apart. Just this season alone, they changed 4 managers and the way they played really make me vomit blood every weekend. Latest manager to join is Alan Shearer (My favourite!).

He was been asked to take on the uphill task to rescue the team with just 8 games to go. With the current players, it was really tough.

As the final whistle blowed last night, I was very sad. I will not get to see my team every weekend anymore. Will Shearer still remain as the club's manager? Only time will tell.
